  1. WALK WITH ME

WALK WITH ME

This song came through at the end of a week of teaching my vocal workshop 'Singing In The Stream' at the Omega Institute in upstate NY. As I walked the labyrinth in the early morning the song was calling to me as if to say, “Remember me, you are going to need me.”
I sang the first three verses all the way into the labyrinth and all the way back out so as not to forget it.
A short time later my dear friend and fellow Ubuntu choir director Sara Thomsen reached out to me to ask about adding the “Water is Life” verse as she and a group of dedicated water walkers headed into Standing Rock and so the song began to grow.
The months ahead were filled with unexpected loss of family members both old and young and the song expanded to include two more verses calling for strength in community and the promise of healing.
The final verse, for the survival of our children, was added after the tragic loss of life in Parkland, Florida. Many of us came together at the March For Our Lives in Los Angeles to sing these words in the streets and to gather the forces both seen and unseen to help us through these troubled times.

* I am so pleased that people have been moved to sing this song . I would love to know how and where the song is traveling. If you choose to share it in your community I hope you will send me a note here at

I WALK IN THE SPIRIT I WALK IN THE LIGHT
*I WALK THROUGH THE DARKEST HOURS OF NIGHT
AND I CALL ON MY ANCESTORS TO MY LEFT AND MY RIGHT TO WALK WITH ME, TO WALK WITH ME

*I WALK IN THE SERVICE OF DOING WHATS RIGHT

*I WALK WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT
WE ‘LL BE ALRIGHT

*I WALK WITH MY NEIGHBORS TO FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

*I WALK FOR THE WATER, THE WATER IS LIFE

*I WALK WITH THE PROMISE OF HEALING IN SIGHT

*I WALK FOR THE CHILDREN AND THEIR RIGHT TO SURVIVE

I WALK IN THE SPIRIT I WALK IN THE LIGHT
*I WALK THROUGH THE DARKEST HOURS OF NIGHT
AND I CALL ON MY ANCESTORS TO MY LEFT AND MY RIGHT TO WALK WITH ME, TO WALK WITH ME
